Simple Tips to Perfect Your Paint Job

Posted on 18. Aug, 2015 by in Home Improvement

Paint Job | XLHomeImprovementBlog.comWant a change of color in your home but prefer not to spend too much money? Instead of hiring professionals, simply do the painting on your own. If you have never done anything like this before, you may worry that you will make a few mistakes. However, there are some easy tips that will help you perfect your paint job every single time.

Cover Your Floor and Furniture With Plastic

Even if you plan to be careful, it is easy for paint to splatter. Before you start the job, cover your floor and furniture with plastic or canvas tarps. If you end up making a mess while working on the walls, you do not have to worry about trying to remove the paint from your expensive furniture or beautiful hardwood floors. Simply roll the plastic up and trash it when you are done with it.

Use the Paint Tape or Duct Tape

Painters tape will help you achieve a professional paint job. It is not always easy to stay in the lines, but you are forced to do so when the tape blocks you from getting the color on any other areas of the wall. If you do not have the special painters tape, use pieces of duct tape.

Apply a Primer and Finish

Before adding your official color, use a roller or brush to apply a primer so that the final color goes on evenly. You may need to add a few coatings before you have achieved the brightness you desire. After the walls are dry, make sure to apply a clear coat finish if you want to have a nice glaze on the walls. The top coat is just as important as the primer and the paint color.

Who needs professionals when you can do the job by yourself? Make sure to gather the right tools, such as paintbrushes, rollers, trays and tape before you get started. Follow these simple tips and your home’s exterior will look even better than it did before.
